FREE-scoring Farnborough North End remain undefeated this season after seeing off the challenge of fourth-placed Fleetlands in their top-of-the-table tussle at Ringwood Road.

North End notched their 49th league goal of the campaign in just 14 league games as they eventually beat the spirited Gosport side 3-1 to hold off second-placed Hayling United on goal difference.

"I was very impressed with Fleetlands," said North End secretary John Marchment. "They're a young side and played some nice football but, in the end, I think that we were a little bit stronger physically."

Tinoi Christie slotted the league leaders into a 14th minute lead before the visitors replied after 55 minutes through Paul Stanley.

On 70 minutes, Steve Lloyd latched onto a threaded through ball and held off his marker to slide his shot under the keeper. The points were sealed after 88 minutes when Paul Xiberras' quickly taken free kick picked out Todd who had sneaked around the back to fire into the net.

Second-placed Hayling United rifled seven goals without reply past luckless Yateley Green, while third-placed Paulsgrove had to settle for one against Laverstock & Ford.

"Their keeper was inspired," said Paulsgrove secretary Jim Garcia. "It was a tough game as they are a good solid outfit, but we'll settle for 1-0 as we did deserve it in the end."

Patient Paulsgrove had to wait 82 minutes before they could break the deadlock, Gary Wearne measuring a slide-rule pass through the Laverstock defence for Jason House to slot home.

In-form Colden Common made it six league wins on the bounce with an impressive 4-0 awayday victory at Clanfield.

"We could have had scored more but we took our foot off the pedal," said Common manager Dave Riddell.

Common got off to a flyer when Richard Lang chipped them ahead after barely two minutes but their second didn't arrive until the 49th minute when a great move ended with Lee Kelly's cross being helped into the net by a Clanfield defender.

Dean Higgins supplied the cross for Lang to head home his second on 57 minutes with Ross Lewis finding Kelly who plundered Common's fourth goal nine minutes later.

Common's neighbours Micheldever are right behind them in sixth place after slaying RS Basingstoke 4-1, while strikes in the opening 25 minutes by Peter White and Paul Clarkson gave Tadley Calleva a 2-0 win at Ordnance Survey.
