GIANT-KILLERS Lymington & New Milton marched proudly into the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup with a stunning 1-0 victory away at Southern League Premier Division high-flyers Merthyr Tydfil.

"For me personally this is undoubtedly my best-ever result," said an emotional Linnets' boss Ian Robinson, who confessed to having tears in his eyes at the final whistle.

"This club has enjoyed similar results in their history before, but I've never experienced anything quite like this. I feel absolutely over the moon and, for once, words really do fail me.

"Every side we've beaten in the four rounds to date have been from leagues above us. We beat Molesey and Sittingbourne followed by Chippenham Town, who were second in the Southern League Premier Division and now we've just turned over Merthyr, who are currently third," beamed Robinson.

"It was a tight struggle. We lined-up 4-4-2 and were determined not to get beat. Every single player in our 14-man squad did brilliantly. We defended well when we lost the ball and restricted them to just one clear cut chance.

"We probably only created one clear-cut chance as well - but we took it! I feel sorry for the other Wessex teams who have gone out today but it's wonderful to be in the hat for Monday's draw," added Robinson.

Lymington struck with just four minutes left on the clock, Mark Clothier crossing the ball from wide for Jimmy Anderson to head home the goal which was worth £5,000 in prize money to the Linnets and takes the club's total from the four rounds to date to £12,000.

AFC Newbury's fabulous FA Cup adventure came to an end at the hands of Conference South side Bognor Regis Town, who triumphed 2-0 at Nyewood Lane.

"I thought that we did very well and certainly weren't disgraced," reflected Newbury's Jim Goslin. "They are a very good footballing side and you have to remember that this team drew 1-1 away at Hornchurch last weekend!

"Their manager commented that we were a credit to the Wessex League, which was nice. It's been a great adventure and now we start again in the FA Vase next Saturday," added Goslin.

Danny Taylor did miss an early opportunity for the Berkshire side before Ben Watson capitalised with the visitors' defence pushing up for offside to give the Sussex side a sixth minute lead.

Daniel Beck then chipped the Newbury keeper on 52 minutes to seal the Rocks' place in today's draw.
