SAINTS are staying tight-lipped over which charity is set to benefit after Fabrice Fernandes was fined by the club following his conviction for drink-driving.

Staff at the club refused to disclose where the fine money - which could be worth up to £30,000 - is to go, but said it could be one of the five registered charities affiliated to the club.

Fernandes was given an 18-month community rehabilitation order and £10,000 fine by Southwark Crown Court earlier this month after pleading guilty to leading police on a high speed chase across London while almost double the drink-drive limit.

The court heard how Fernandes had drunk five vodkas and a Red Bull before driving his £70,000 Cayenne Porsche on May 10.

He was spotted going through a red light by a police patrol unit which then followed him through a further string of red lights.

As well as receiving the community rehabilitation order, the 24-year-old was banned from driving for two years, ordered to pay £461 costs, attend a driver's rehabilitation course and take an extended driving test.

The Frenchman, who is believed to earn up to £15,000 a week, was also fined two weeks wages by Saints.

A spokesman for the club confirmed that the money WOULD be going to charity.

They added that it would either go to a charity of Fernandes' choice or one of the five charities affiliated to the club - The Princes Trust, Fairbridge Solent, The Honeypot, Wessex Heartbeat and Wessex Cancer Trust.
