RENOWNED jazz singer and art critic George Melly has added his voice to the Save our Theatre campaign.

George has appeared at Andover's Cricklade Theatre several times, singing with John Chilton's Feetwarmers, and as an art critic talking about Picasso.

In writing to Andover campaigner and arts administrator Peter Redmond, he said: "What a sad and typical story you sent me. Of course I will add my name to the list of your supporters. Indeed, you are quite right, I am too old and frail (ha ha) to come and wave the flag for you, but I offer my complete moral support."

He joins a growing list of celebrities to back the campaign including TV and radio personality Nicholas Parsons, comedian and scriptwriter Barry Cryer and Salisbury's own, singer Rosemary Squires.
