BASINGSTOKE-based tennis ace Alex Miotto has collected his first senior world ranking points in a great summer on the courts.
The 20-year-old trains at the Manydown Club, under the watchful eye of coach Mike Raphael.
He is now ranked 1,088 in the world and has set his sights on making the top 900 by the end of the year.
His ranking points came from making the quarter-finals in tournaments at Kigali, Rwanda, and Mombasa in Kenya.
Miotto said: "It was a great experience playing out in Africa - against players a lot higher in the rankings - and now I will be looking to move up the rankings a lot farther."
Having collected his first world ranking points, he now gets automatic entry to all the future level tournaments.
At the moment he is in action in Sunderland and will then be travelling to Belgium for a couple of events.
Another high spot of the summer was helping the Caesarean club of Jersey to victory in the National Club Championships over Sutton at Bournemouth in early September.
The club will now represent Great Britain in the European Championships next year.
A thrilling final went into a doubles tie-break shoot-out, with the winners being the first to 10 points.
Miotto and his partner, James Smith, were staring defeat in the face at 10-5 and 11-10 down, but saved six match points on their way to a 14-12 win.
A month earlier, the 20-year-old claimed his first British tour victory at Ilkley.
Miotto said: "The finals of both competitions were very nerve-racking, but it was a great thrill to win both."
The young tennis ace is looking for sponsorship and he can be contacted on 01256 333158.
