MILLIONS of pounds that could help save the lives of cancer sufferers have not been sent in by women who took part in one of Britain's biggest charity campaigns, the Daily Echo can reveal.
Only half the runners from this summer's 150 Race for Life events have passed on sponsorship money to organisers Cancer Research UK.
In Southampton alone 4,500 of the 10,000 women who took part in the country's biggest Race for Life have not sent back a penny - despite collecting pledges that could total more than £250,000.
Last year nearly half the 5,000 women who ran in Southampton also failed to send in sponsorship money.
Organisers say those figures are mirrored across the country.
More than 400,000 women pulled on their running shoes to complete a five-kilometre course for Race for Life this year.
