Hamble Parish Council is calling for a "gateway" road traffic feature to be built on the entrance to the village in Hamble Lane in a bid to slow traffic down.
The village authority has tried unsuccessfully to get a 30mph speed restriction extended along Hamble Lane to Hound Corner roundabout.
Now, members believe that a gateway entrance feature - such as brick pillars either side of the road - would help slow vehicles down. Parish clerk Kate Cullen said: "It has apparently been quite successful in slowing traffic elsewhere."
The authority is to write to Eastleigh Council for information about the possibility of a similar feature for Hamble and for appropriate designs.
