DURING a week when Poole Pirates wrapped up the SkyBet Elite League championship for the second year running came news of the death of one of their great old riders.
Jimmy Squibb has passed away at 82 years old after a long illness.
He rode for Poole as well as Ipswich, Cranleigh and Southampton and earned 30 England caps.
Jim would have been proud of the current Pirates who surged to a crushing 63-30 victory over Wolvershampton in the second leg of their Elite League play-off at Wimborne Road on Monday.
Pirates, who are on course for a second successive league/cup double, had wrapped up the title as early as the tenth heat.
There were class rides from Bjarne Pedersen, who scored 12 points, backed up by Antonia Lindback and Ryan Sullivan with 11 each.
It puts the Pirates in great heart for their Knockout Cup Final double header against Ipswich on October 20 (home) and 21 (away).
