LOCKS HEATH powered their way back to the top of the Wessex Division 2 table last night with a 1-0 victory at US Portsmouth.

"The winning margin should have been a lot greater but we missed several clear cut opportunities," smiled Heath manager Matt Parr.

"However I am very pleased, because we have played some really good, attractive football and some team is going to get a real hiding when we do finally click in front of goal."

Despite their territorial dominance, the visitors had to wait until the 78th minute for their winner when John Stevens' corner kick was firmly headed home by centre-back Steve Thomas.

Poole Town are up into fourth spot after a terrific second-half fightback saw them triumph 3-2 at Blackfield & Langley, who had raced into an early 2-0 lead at Gang Warily.

"We played extremely well and I thought that we probably deserved a point," reflected Blackfield boss Chris Homer.

"It was a 100 per cent improvement on Saturday's performance at Alresford and I'm not overly disappointed to lose to a very good Poole Town side."

Two strikes from goal-scoring sensation Neil Williams put Blackfield 2-0 up inside 20 minutes but the Dolphins recovery started five minutes after the break with a 25-yard effort from Gary Funnell.

A handball in the Blackfield box gave Funnell the chance to equalise with a 75th- minute penalty and, five minutes from time, Stuart Brown crossed for 16-year-old substitute Carl Chivers to head in a late winner.

"It was a very satisfying result, especially after trailing at half-time, and the win will help to put us back on track," said Poole vice-chairman Chris Reeves.

Hythe & Dibden continue to rise through the pack following their 4-2 victory over Brading Town at Jones Lane.

Although the Islanders took a fifth-minute lead, Hythe were back on terms ten minutes later when Colin Burdle's cross was met by a spectacular overhead volley from Wayne Oakley.

Roger Maynard then found Lee MacEacheran, who netted with another volley just before half time, only for Brading to equalise after 54 minutes.

On 75 minutes, Wayne Harvey crossed for Nathan Oakley - back from holiday in the States - to head Hythe back in front.

Maynard sealed the points after 84 minutes with a thumping drive from just outside the penalty area.

"That was a great win and, after all the early-season turmoil, we finally seem to have turned the corner now," said Hythe co-manager Dave Cox.
