CONCERT: Around 100 people attended this event at St Mary's Church last Saturday, presented by Orpheus, a group of Kingsclere people who get together to make music for fun.

I suppose you could call them a modern chamber orchestra.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening and the church benefited from the takings. I suggest you don't miss it next time.

THIS is Kingsclere: Is an event on Saturday, October 23, at the Fieldgate, from noon to 6pm, which is free to attend.

It's a chance to see the many things that go on in our village and to join them if you wish.

When they were assembled for the Village of the Year judging, the small number of people who were able to be there felt we ought to show the gathering to everyone, so please take the time to drop in.

GARDENING club: The first talk for the new season is at the Fieldgate on Thursday, at 7.45pm.

David Hitchcock is coming all the way from Bridport to talk about aquilegias, especially new varieties.

Perhaps a bit esoteric, but, on the other hand, they are easy to grow.

BIG dig: It really is over for this year and the Heritage Association is waiting for the detailed report to come back from Southampton University.

The premiere of the video made by Len Wells is currently still being edited.

If you want to catch up with what happened, then go to www.kingsclere.org.uk/romansite.html where there is a day-by-day photo record of the progress of the dig at Tidgrove.

HERITAGE Association: Is planning its AGM in the Village Club on Thursday, October 28, at 7.30pm.

I am told that the business is always rapidly completed, so there is a chance to talk about real issues.
