A NEW shopping venue in Southampton was officially opened at the weekend and the occasion was marked by a day of entertainment, fundraising and competitions.

The 400-year-old former stable buildings in Dolphin Lane, off High Street, Southampton, have been renovated to house a variety of shops and businesses including a gift shop, hair and beauty rooms, an art gallery and boutiques selling shoes and lingerie.

After former Saints captain Francis Benali officially opened the Lane, visitors enjoyed face-painting, live music, and a competition to win a bright pink car in aid of cancer research charity Tenovus.

Dolphin Hotel deputy manager Chris Just, said: "Dolphin Lane is a unique concept. It's a series of boutiques that complement the hotel.

"The opening has proved very popular. It's great to be raising money for charity too. Tenovus is a cancer charity and it's something that is very close to all of our hearts."
