League leaders Winchester City's 7-1 romp at Cowes Sports on Friday night took them eight points clear of second-placed Fareham Town who suffered a shock 1-0 home defeat at the hands of fifth bottom Alton Town.
"Although it was a game of few chances, it was a good battle out there. We've managed to get all three points and that's Fareham's first defeat in 11 matches," smiled Alton chairman Jim McKell.
The game's only goal came after 20 minutes when Richard McCann found John Edwards, who rifled the ball into the net from the edge of the penalty area.
