AN Andover couple's faith in humanity has been restored after two honest New Yorkers played detective to return their lost camcorder.
London Road residents Jill and Len Nobbs feared they would never see their £500 camcorder again when they left it in the back seat of a New York taxi while on holiday.
But the next day they were stunned to find it waiting for them at their Bermuda-bound cruise ship - it had been returned by New Yorkers Matt Cronin and Paulo Andino.
Matt and Paulo hailed the same taxi after the Andover couple got out and, finding the camcorder, spent five hours trying to track down the rightful owner.
After watching pre-recorded footage on the tape, the duo discovered Jill and Len had been staying at the Hilton Hotel and were talking about going on a cruise ship.
Eventually they found a receipt with the couple's name on it in the camera bag and discovered a reference to Bermuda on the tape so they could track down the ship which Jill and Len would be sailing on.
"We were mystified to see the camera in our cabin the next day because we thought we'd lost it completely," Jill said. It was only when Jill and Len returned to Andover that the mystery was solved when they saw a message from Matt on the camcorder.
