NEW routes for Southampton's night-time bus services are being introduced from today.

The changes will mean there are no longer any more Nightlink route services along Carlton Road and Archers Road.

This is because the previous Nightlink route N2 Service which ran through Banister Park, Portswood, the University, Bassett, Wessex Lane and Swaythling has been withdrawn.

A new timetable for the fleet of single decker buses has been introduced after a review into passenger use carried out by Southampton City Council.

Students, latenight revellers and shift workers all make use of the service which operates on Friday and Saturday nights.

Buses will continue to leave every 30 minutes from the city centre between midnight and 2.30am.

A Southampton City Council spokesman said: "We have had a look at how the service is being used and revised some of the routes accordingly. Many different types of people rely on the buses and hopefully this new timetable will provide a better service for them."

A new N5 service will replace the former N1 service. It will run every 30 minutes and run through Bevois Valley, Portswood, the University, Bassett, Wessex Lane and Swaythling.

The fare will remain the same at £2 although no passes or concessions are available for the service.
