COMMUNITY leaders today called on residents to fight to save a dozen Hamp-shire post offices facing the axe.
They want people to rally round to persuade bosses to reverse their decision to close the 12 post offices across the county.
Yesterday's announcement to close ten post offices in Southampton, one in Eastleigh and one in Winchester sparked anger and concern across the region.
Now MPs, councillors and pensioners' pressure groups are urging local communities to join together and fight the closures.
Southampton Test MP Alan Whitehead said: "I urge everyone who feels strongly about the proposed changes to make their views known.''
Age Concern Southampton chief officer Sandra Smith added: "I think post offices are a very valuable service which are being thrown away without a great deal of thought.''
