INSPIRED by the illustrations, life and nonsense poems of Victorian poet Edward Lear My Uncle Arly is a stage show like no other.
The show takes its name from Lear's poem of the same name.
Lear's poems are characterised by his irreverent view of the world.
My Uncle Arly takes the audience on a comic journey as the titular character travels beyond the bounds of reason and revels in total absurdity.
As an exuberant and colourful theatrical experience, the production is a comedy accessible for children and adults alike.
Taken on a journey through France and Italy and into places that the mind would never normally chart, audiences will be delighted as Lear's poetry is mixed with original songs and comic recreations and becomes 'curiouser and curiouser'.
With songs, poetry, wordplay, huge puppet-like figures, simple clowning and slapstick, the world of Uncle Arly and indeed Lear is a truly interesting one.
As the author of the notorious The Owl and the Pussycat as well as many other nursery classics, audiences are reminded to be prepared to abandon all reason and sanity!
The play is a collaboration between the theatre company Hoipolloi and the children's company Tiebreak.
The Point, Eastleigh. Wednesday, performance: 7.30pm. Tickets: from £7.50. Box Office: 023 8065 2333.
