Three swimmers from the City of Southampton Swimming Club have made it through to the national school finals in Coventry later this year.

Alex Reeves, from Thornden School, has qualified for three events - but waited until almost the last event to deliver his winning performance in the boys' intermediate 100m butterfly at the Division 12 championships at The Quays.

Taking pole position in 1.01.44, he finished third in the intermediate 200m IM and clocked 26.41 in the 50m freestyle.

Joshua Willcocks (Thornden) fought off tough opposition to take pole position and a place in the finals in the boys' intermediate 100m freestyle (56.74).

Emma Macey (King Edward School) also qualified for the finals after a win in the girls' intermediate 100m butterfly in a personal best 1.05.36.

Hayley Couchman (Mountbatten School) swam in the junior 50m freestyle, 100m breaststroke and 100m backstroke while Charlotte Slater (St Anne's Convent School) competed in the girls' open 400m freestyle, intermediate 50m and 100m freestyle.

Luke Horswell competed in the senior boys' 50m freestyle, Joanna Jeffcoate (Hamble School) swam in the 100m backstroke and Sebastian Willcocks in the boys' junior 100m butterfly.

l City of Southampton Swimming Club's small squad collected a large medal haul in the annual Hampshire Masters Championships in Basingstoke - and finished fifth overall.

Carole Baker took gold medals in every one of her group D events - the 200m freestyle (2.48.98), 100m freestyle (1.17.40), 50m freestyle (34.33), 100m medley (1.32.08), 25m freestyle (16.01), breaststroke, butterfly (17.69) and backstroke (19.87).

Ann Spellman who also went home with a collection of medals from the same group. She swam to gold in the 400m freestyle (7.17.72) and took silvers in the 200m freestyle (3.28.84), 100m freestyle (1.34.93) and 50m freestyle (42.76).

Kumiko Moore (also age group D) won silver medals in the 100m breaststroke (1.48.93), 50m breaststroke (48.95), 25m butterfly, 25m butterfly (25.09) and 200m breaststroke (3.48.79) and bronze in the 50m freestyle (42.90).

Carole Pierce (age group E) swam to gold in the 50m butterfly (39.79) and 25m backstroke (19.24), silver in the 25m butterfly (18.14) and 25m freestyle (15.40) and bronze in the 100m freestyle (1.16.03).

And the club's male members topped up the medal total.

Robert Lee (age group A) swam to gold in the 100m IM (1.28.01) and bronze in the 50m butterfly (39.40), 50m freestyle (32.10) and 25m freestyle.

Andrew Moore (D), won silver in the 400m freestyle (6.37.93). Jerry Jerome (G), recovering from recent surgery, still took freestyle gold medals in the 400m (7.13.72), 200m (3.24.65) and 50m (42.71).

Tom Wells, aged 67, who only recently took up competitive swimming, achieved personal best times in all his events, a silver medal in the 50m freestyle (37.13) and a bronze in 25m freestyle (17.46).

In the 200-plus years 100m IM relay, Carole Pierce, Carole Baker, Andre Moore and Tom Wells collected a bronze medal. In the 200-plus 100m freestyle, Carole Baker and Pierce were joined by Tom Wells and Jerry Jerome and also won bronze.
