A TITCHFIELD Common woman is gearing up for her first charity run in memory of her father, who died of exposure to asbestos following service in the Royal Navy.
Mel Would, 31, of Warsash Road, has roped friend Karen Dance in to spur her along during the Great South Run next week. The pair hope to raise hundreds of pounds for hospice Countess Mountbatten House in West End.
The second anniversary of the death of Roger Matthews of asbestos-linked cancer mesothelioma comes nine days after the 10-mile run around Portsmouth on October 10.
Mrs Would said: "My father never actually made it into the hospice, apart from a few day visits to help him with his breathing, but the aftercare we received, especially my mum's, was absolutely brilliant."
To sponsor the pair, call Mel on 01489 603348.
