Kyle and Pritchard star
Alresford Town 5, Paulsgrove 2
ALRESFORD served up a goal-feast under the Arlebury Park floodlights on Tuesday night, when they knocked Paulsgrove out of the League Cup by five goals to two.
The win owed much to the heading ability of midfielder Danny Kyle and the crosses of right-back Glen Pritchard.
But Paulsgrove, who had to travel without a recognised keeper, took the lead after five minutes after one of the game's many controversial incidents.
Ref Ifor Smith initially pointed to the spot after Grant Young had hacked down Richie Parkes on the edge of the box. After consultation with his assistant the free-kick was moved outside the box, but Paulsgrove needn't have worried - Tony Sizer found the bottom corner of the net direct with a sweet strike.
Town equalised on 21 minutes through the Pritchard-Kyle partnership; Kyle had already hit the post with one header, but this time he nodded Pritchard's cross through the hands of stand-in keeper Tony Kessack.
Ryan Doyle made it 2-1 with a free-kick of his own after being fouled by Jody Howard.
Five minutes into the second half came another Pritchard cross, another Kyle header, and another goal.
Phil Anderson used his speed to win a race to a through ball and make it 4-1, and with Paulsgrove starting to look ragged at the back, Anderson grabbed Alresford's fifth after good work by Joel Matthews.
A late Martin Whittaker penalty gave Paulsgrove scant consolation from a night to rememember - at least for the home contingent.
Town's third consecutive win put them in good heart for tomorrow's testing Hampshire Senior Cup debut at in-form BAT Sports.
AFC Aldermaston 2 Alresford Town 4
On Saturday Ryan Doyle scored twice in the second half to secure a league win over bottom club Aldermaston.
Chances were at a premium for the opening half-hour - but then Alresford took the lead with Matt Owen and Joel Matthews setting up an opportunity for Phil Hallgarth to chip the advancing keeper.
But Alresford's joy was short-lived - Stafford heading a far post equaliser before half-time.
Alresford quickly regained the initiative with Owen knocking the ball down for Matthews to make it 2-1.
Doyle headed the visitors into a 3-1 lead from Gary Frost's cross.
Aldermaston refused to lie down and cut the gap again through O'Keefe.
Alresford were to have the final say, though, with Doyle scoring his second four minutes from time to secure the points.
