Michael Padwick, Wayne Webster and Shane King from Southampton City Petanque Club have gelled quickly as a team.
Playing only their second tournament together, they won three out of four games playing as SR5 in the Southern Region versus Isle of Wight challenge match at Burridge to finish as the second-placed Southern Region team.
SR1, made up of Graham Galton, Ryan Dickson and Robert Padwick, were brought back down to earth after winning the Southern Region Junior Championships the previous week.
They only managed to win one game out of four and were placed seventh and last of the Southern Region Teams that took part.
Overall, however, the Southern Region crept home 11-9 - their first win since 2000.
The Southampton City boys are now looking forward to playing for Millbrook Community School in the Schools Cup in Worthing on October 9.
