THIS year's Deanery book sale has come to an end after another successful run.
It is thought that the proceeds from the event have nearly doubled on last year, with £23,500 raised for the cathedral choristerships. For the past few months Tessa Till, the wife of the Dean, the Very Rev Michael Till, has found her doorstep turned into a venue for the book sale.
More than 2,000 books were up for grabs at just 50p each.
Mrs Till said about 40,000 books had been sold, all donated by local people. "At one time we had 120 boxes of books to be put on display by our volunteer team. The huge success is down to all who donated books, to those who came along to gather up their holiday reading or in search of a really special book, and the volunteers," she said.
