A 78-YEAR-old Fareham driving instructor is gearing up for his 10th Great South Run next month.
Michael Aimable, who has just become semi-retired, runs eight miles each morning between his home in Wallisdean Avenue and Wickham.
He hopes to raise £2,500 in aid of the Harbour Cancer Support Centre after hearing of the plight of a colleague's son who needs a new electric wheelchair.
Mr Aimable said: "At the age of 54 I started to get pains in my heart and left side and I knew that it was time to start running. It took exactly two months before I could run four miles."
The ten-mile race, on Sunday October 10, follows a route through Portsmouth.
Mr Aimable has also competed in the London Marathon several times.
