HORDLE children are going wild with delight thanks to a group of fundraising adults.

Parents, governors and staff at Hordle Junior School have spent 18 months getting grants and organising events to make all 319 pupils and lots of little creatures very happy indeed.

They collected together £35,000 for other improvements to the play and learn kit in the playground while Hampshire County Council has paid for improved drainage on the school field and the government provided money for a multi-purpose ball court for basketball, netball, tennis and cricket.

One wall is decorated with murals designed and painted by the children, while there are 13 outdoor activity picnic tables, seating, a new bark safety surface for the activity playground and an outdoor classroom for 30 under a pergola style structure.

Phase one of a new wildlife area has been created on an used piece of ground at the front of the former school caretaker's cottage.

The transformation includes seating for a whole class, a pond with decking, raised vegetable beds, mini-beast logs, a dry stone wall, a willow tunnel and boxes for birds, bees, bats and butterflies.

A hide will soon be built to that children can watch birds and other wildlife.

All pupils helped with the planting and parents provided the vital digging power.
