JAMES Beattie leaves the Craven Cottage pitch looking dejected after Saints' dismal start to he Premiership season continued.

Beattie and his colleagues were subjected to chants of 'What a load of rubbish' at the end of the club's 1-0 defeat at Craven Cottage which kept them fourth from bottom.

But head coach Steve Wigley, under pressure already, from sections of the fans after taking just one point from his five games in charge, has told supporters: "Don';t jeer the players - I'll take the flak myself."

Wigley, left, said: "It's better they (the fans) aim it at me than the players because I remember when I was a player and took a bit of stick it was a lot harder because I was expected to produce something.

" All I've got to do now is stand there and take the flak and it';s much better it comes my way than the players."

He continued: "The4 supporters vented their feelings, they've paid their money and they're entitled to do that.

"It was a bit harsh on the players but it was probably aimed at me."
