New Inn 1 R and B Sports 4
THIS top game in the Basingstoke and District Saturday League at Brighton Hill proved much easier than expected for the promoted R and B side.
A tight first half ended without a goal from either team.
It was Neller on the right who forced a save from 'keeper Andy Lear, and the loose ball was picked up by Paul Ferla, who laid it back for Neller to score the opener on 55 minutes.
After 67 minutes another cross from Neller fell for Ferla to make it 2-0.
New Inn pulled themselves back in the game via Jason McDine, but in the last 10 minutes R and B struck twice, with Neller and Ferla combining for Matt Button to net the third.
The fourth came after a Neller cross was converted by Lee Berry, leaving them as the only club in the premier with a 100 per cent record.
Labour Club 2 AFC Popley 4
WHEN leading 2-0 Labour looked likely winners at Russell Howard Park, but a shock for them after the break brought their fourth defeat in five matches.
AFC Popley were worthy winners after conceding these two goals.
The first came after 33 minutes, when a cross from Xandee Rijnvis was knocked on by Mark Horton and Dave Yates finished it off.
The second was nine minutes later, again Rijnvis with a long throw, helped on by Stephen Poulter, and Yates netted again.
The comeback started five minutes after the break, when Steve Austin scored and then a through ball from Jon Richardson found Ben Thane for the equaliser.
It was Thane who gave Popley the lead, and then a solo run and 20-yard shot from Stuart Austin earned John Simpkins' side their second win of the season.
Oakley Ath 1 AFC Aldermaston 1
THIS was just about the right result, although the Aldermaston 'keeper was the busier of the two on the day when the wet ball was difficult to hold.
It was a corner by Adam Hart, not held by the AFC 'keeper, and John Williams knocked in the rebound, but two minutes before the break Joel Scotforth netted the equaliser.
Hart hit the bar in the second-half and Williams had a good chance to score the winner as Oakley pressed.
Bramley Utd 1 Hook 1
BRAMLEY were forced to bring in new faces and, despite dropping their first points of the season, are still top-of-the-table.
Scott Kinge, drafted in from the reserves, was outstanding in midfield, and another newcomer, Kevin Brown, looked reasonable, although not match fit.
It was Brown who had a great chance with an open goal, but he missed. Richard Sygrove will also wonder how he failed to put Hook in front with an easy chance as he shot past the post.
Hook had most of the chances in the second half and hit the post twice before a mistake between 'keeper Simon Robinson and Sam Conway led to Addy Green nipping in between them to put Hook in front.
Bramley manager Steve Wigglesworth had to come on as a sub and his pass found Scott Kinge who fired in at Martin, he spilled and in came Tony Dixon to net an equaliser they did not really deserve.
Anyone interested in playing in goal for Wigglesworth should call Mick Walsh on 01256 881241.
