A WOMAN was killed and two other people were seriously injured in a road accident that closed a major Hampshire road for more than five hours.
The tragedy happened at about 8.45pm on Saturday when a dark blue Mercedes collided with a metallic red Peugeot in Romsey.
The driver of the Mercedes - believed to be the only occupant of the vehicle - died at the scene of the accident at the junction of Cupernham Lane and Belbins.
The occupants of the other car, a man and a woman, were taken to Southampton General Hospital by ambulance.
The identity of the deceased was not being released until next of kin had been informed.
Police are asking for anyone with information about the crash - codenamed Operation Yarnton - to contact them on 0845 045 4545.
