SOUTHAMPTON Senior One side Romsey Town Sports FC have been suspended by the Hampshire FA following a reported brawl during their match against Burridge Sports FC last Saturday.
A Romsey Town Sports FC supporter is alleged to have hit a Burridge Sports FC player, who received a serious head injury after Romsey's players allegedly joined in the melee.
The match was abandoned and Romsey Town Sports FC have now been suspended, pending a 'full and extensive' enquiry by the Hampshire FA.
But Romsey are unhappy with the decision.
Club secretary Rose Gover said: "I find it totally unfair that we've been suspended and they (Burridge) haven't.
"It takes two to tango but we've been found guilty and they've been made out to be angels.
"The Romsey team are a good bunch of lads and this is certainly out of character.
"The Hampshire FA should have suspended both teams."
Romsey Town Sports FC are due to appear before the Hampshire FA on October 5, less than a month after one of the club's players, Kieran Gallagher, was fined £1,000 and handed 240 hours community service for allegedly throwing a punch during a game against Burridge AFC on April 24.
The Hampshire FA are currently investigating that incident.
Ironically, Romsey Town Sports FC were due to play Burridge AFC today before receiving news of their ban.
Hampshire FA operations manager Neil Cassar said: "In the referee's report there was no suggestion that there was any violent conduct from anyone from Burridge Sports FC.
"Romsey refused to continue the game so theoretically they caused the game to be abandoned by refusing to play."
Burridge AFC were considering writing to all teams in their league asking them to refuse to play against Romsey Town Sports this season.
They are unhappy that Gallagher has yet to be handed any suspension by the Hampshire FA for the incident which took place six months ago.
A club spokesman said: "The Hampshire FA have made a silly error and allowed people like that to ruin the game again."
The Hampshire FA say they could not ban the player concerned because firstly he was not mentioned in the referee's report, and then they could not act until his case was dealt with by the courts.
Now Gallagher has been punished by the courts, Hampshire FA will conduct their own investigation.
They wrote to Romsey asking for their version of events but only received a reply this week.
Burridge Sports FC were not avaiable for comment.
