THEY Should Have Asked My Husband sounds like something Pam Ayres would come up with in one of her witty poems.

As it happens, that's the name of a new show Pam will be performing at The Anvil, in Basingstoke, on Tuesday, October 12.

The writer and broadcaster has an enduring appeal to audiences of all ages.

Her comic poems have contributed enormously to the wider appeal today of all forms of poetry, and many of her poems feature in school textbooks around the world.

In her lovely and unmistakable yokel accent, she is able to turn the most mundane objects and everyday situations into something that will make her audience burst out laughing.

It is close to 30 years since Pam's career got off the ground, winning ITV's Opportunity Knocks.

She has won praise from the likes of Poet Laureate Andrew Motion, who last year described her as "the best in the country", and has performed privately for The Queen at St James' Palace, in London.

Tickets cost £13 and can be purchased from The Anvil's box office on 01256 844244, via the ticket fax on 01256 366900 or by logging on to the website www.theanvil.org.uk
