ANYONE intending to listen to the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment at The Anvil should not expect to hear modern, electronic, new-age music.

On Sunday, October 10, starting at 7.45pm, only sublime and inspiring classical pieces are in store.

And if ever a piece of music deserved to be described as sublime, it is Mozart's Clarinet Concerto - the composer's final orchestral work and one of his most inspired.

With a slow movement, perhaps it is one of the most beautiful pieces by any classical composer.

It will be played by Antony Pay, who is a frequent soloist with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.

World-class soprano Hillevi Martinpelto, who hails from Sweden, will sing two spectacular arias by Mozart, before Beethoven's dramatic concert piece - Ah, perfido! - a fine piece of music dating from the composer's early years in Vienna.

Conductor Sir Charles Mackerras (pictured), an acknowledged expert on Czech music, has chosen "a real discovery" - a wonderful symphony by Vorisek, the greatest Czech composer of Beethoven's generation.

Tickets are priced from £13.50 to £29.50 and are available from The Anvil box office on 01256 844244.
