FAREHAM MP Mark Hoban has secured a meeting with a government finance chief to discuss job losses at the Office for National Statistics (ONS) in Titchfield.
He will join ONS union members to meet Stephen Timms, the financial secretary to the Treasury in Westminster on October 11.
Mr Hoban is set to urge the government not to go through with their decision to lose 100 staff from the 1,100-employee offices. He said: "I am pleased that employee representatives will, at last, get the opportunity to put the case against the job losses to the minister responsible for the ONS.
"I have said all along that these moves are largely political, so it will give us the opportunity to put the case against them to ONS' political boss.
Mr Hoban hit out at what he believes is a wider governmnent attack on Hampshire after the announcement earlier this week. He had originally requested a meeting with Mr Timms' predecessor Ruth Kelly earlier in the summer.
