THE Nether Wallop Wacky Races produced more zany thrills and spills this year despite the rainy weather on Saturday.
This is the second year the village has held the event, which involves unpowered go-karts hurtling down the hill from the Five Bells pub towards the river. Organised by members of the Unofficial Nether Wallop Entertainment
Committee, the event attracted 15 entrants and raised £300 for village causes.
Secretary Penny Wood said: "It was a brilliant day despite the rain, although some of the entries made of papier mch were beginning to disintegrate by the end of the day."
They were particularly pleased that seven go-karts built by children entered the races and one of these - the Outcast Juniors - went down in the fastest time of 29.4 seconds.
The Outcast Juniors also won the best overall under-16s trophy.
An entry called Biggles, in the form of a biplane and including a dog 'pilot' with goggles, won the best go-kart trophy and the most entertaining prize.
The best-dressed team trophy went to The Mad Hatters in the shape of a cup and saucer out of Alice in Wonderland. Great fun was had by all and the race is now becoming a well-established annual event.
