MOD chiefs have set up an urgent board of inquiry to try to establish why an Army Air Corp Lynx crashed on exercise in the Czech Republic, killing six soldiers.
None of the six was from the AAC's Middle Wallop base but the type of aircraft is a mainstay of the fleet at the base and takes pride of place in the Blue Eagles display team because of its agility in the air.
Unconfirmed reports suggested that the helicopter's rotors clipped high-voltage power lines while it was taking part in an exercise in a remote, uninhabited valley near Namest nad Oslavou, 112 miles south-east of the capital Prague.
Around 450 British soldiers were taking part in the exercise, which was halted after the accident.
