HARD pressed council tax payers across the Kennet district may see a £13 rise in their annual council tax next year - just to pay for the services provided by the district council.
Other services, such as police, fire, the county council and parishes may also decide to add to the increased burden.
At a financial strategy meeting the council's chief executive, Mark Boden, told councillors the financial outlook was bleak.
While the council was expecting to get an extra £90,000 in revenue support from the Government it was facing an extra spending burden of £900,000 including money needed to meet recycling targets. The current district council tax precept for a band D property in Kennet is £112.23 compared to the £94.41 charged in Test Valley.
Councillors will decide on the level of council taxes early next year and may seek to trim any potential rises by re-examining income and spending to find any potential savings.
