PLANS to charge thousands of music fans to see their favourite pop acts at Southampton's Power in the Park pop festival next year are to be put under the spotlight today, writes David Newble.
Youngsters could be charged about £5 to get into the event following organisers Power FM's decision to fence off the site this year and admit about 30,000 free ticket-holders - a response to safety fears, according to station bosses.
Pricing structures are still to be worked out between Capital Radio and city council officers.
The council's leisure culture and tourism scrutiny panel is due to put the plans under the microscope today.
Police had originally raised concerns about how they would control youngsters getting in and out of the venue when fencing was introduced.
But members will be told that the event was such a success that they are considering reducing the number of officers covering the festival.
