THE LIGHTS are finally out at Bishopstoke's Mount Hospital - but campaigners say they won't give up the fight to bring top class health facilities in its place.
Inpatient services at the hospital were shut down for good on Wednesday, and the remaining patients transferred to Winchester's Royal Hampshire County Hospital.
Now campaigners to save the hospital say they will focus their energy on ensuring that the new model of healthcare, promised by Eastleigh and Test Valley South Primary Care Trust to replace the Mount, fits the bill.
Councillor Glynn Davies-Dear said: "I wish the Mount hadn't closed but we've got to live with it now and do everything we can to get the new service up and running.
In consultations earlier this year, the PCT outlined plans for a new community-based model with a bedded unit within three miles of The Point in Eastleigh, a new rehabilitation centre and outpatient physiotherapy clinics.
