Romsey Arts Festival is under starters' orders next Friday (October 1st) with the first concert in the Festival series.
Two of the region's best-known musical ensembles are
joining forces to raise funds for next summer's main event. The Southampton Classical Guitar Society and Cantilena singers will be performing together for the first time.
Guitar Society leader David Tripp says he's delighted to be involved: "We raised £800 for the last Romsey Arts Festival in 2002 and we hope to increase that with a fantastic double bill."
Cantilena, a group of ten singers, who perform acappella, formed four years ago and are taking part in their first-ever festival.
The varied programme ranges from Elgar to Cole Porter, with ensemble pieces and soloists. Profits will go towards organising the main festival fortnight in July 2005.
Festival chairman June Palmer said: "We are grateful to both the Guitar Society and Cantilena for volunteering to help raise much-needed funds. The Festival is a wonderful Romsey institution and next year promises to be one of the most successful ever".
The concert begins at 8pm in the Town Hall. There are refreshments available and a raffle will be held. Tickets priced at £5 are available from Romsey Heritage Centre or on the door.
