CHRIS QUINN has capped a great season for Hampshire women's golf by winning the English Ladies Seniors Championship at Trevose.
The South Winchester ace took the trophy in style, beating former Curtis Cup captain Liz Boatman 4 & 3 in the final.
Quinn made her move nine holes into what had been a close match. When she won the next three back to back, Boatman was chasing her tail and, although she got a hole back, the Hampshire player put her out of reach at the 15th.
It was a sweet moment for Quinn, pictured below, who was beaten in a play-off for the English Strokeplay title at Stoneham three years ago.
She was in sparkling form all the way through at Trevose, where she won the 36-hole qualifying competition by 11 shots then enjoyed resounding victories in the matchplay phase.
Quinn was a key member of the Hampshire team who dominated the English County Championships back in the 1990s and, significantly, was recalled for the recent County Finals at High Post where Hampshire lost out to Yorkshire.
Hampshire players figured prominently at Trevose with Marriott Meon Valley's Chris Stirling going through to the quarter-finals before losing out to Susan Gibb. A former national seniors champion herself, Chris beat ex-England international Viv Saunders on her way to the last eight.
Current Hampshire president Liz Borrow from Corhampton recorded a sparkling 6 & 5 win over Pauline Oliver in the first round. Liz was one under when the match ended, but she tripped up in the second round.
It is Hampshire's second national trophy success of the season after Kerry Smith's victory in the English Amateur Championship back in June.
