TWO goals in two minutes saw Salisbury go through 2-1 at Exmouth Town in their FA Cup clash. But they made hard work of it against a disappointing Screwfix Premier side.
Salisbury completely dominated the first half but could not find the target, although a long throw from Craig Davis on 12 minutes nearly produced an opener for Matt Tubbs, whose header crashed against the underside of the bar.
Eight minutes later Steve Strong sent a free header over from ten yards and then fired a right-footer over the top on 23 minutes.
Exmouth's only threat came from a Richard Pears drive, while on 34 minutes Whites' Leigh Phillips had a penalty appeal turned down after it appeared he had been impeded in the box.
Tubbs then sent a glancing header just wide before the home side caused late first half problems with Seb May testing keeper Sawyer and Danny Boere shooting wide.
On 51 minutes Exmouth got their reward with a Paul Pocock strike but, after Salisbury introduced Sean Cook and went to a 4-3-3 formation, they made it into today's draw with a Phillips header and a Tubbs finish on 68 minutes .
Manager Nick Holmes, due to fly back to Florida today for business reasons after less than a fortnight back in Wiltshire, said: "We knew it would be a difficult game but we probably had 75 per cent of the possession.
"We conceded a goal because we didn't pick up the bits and pieces.
"And this is a problem we have had for some time, happening in the five or ten minutes period around half-time.
Leigh Phillips's goal was the result of our best corner delivery for a while and it got us back in the game."
