HAMPSHIRE player Sam Rooney will not forget the Eastleigh Carnival finals night in a hurry.
The former Winmau Youth Masters semi-finalist came close to missing the event when his wife went into hospital for their second child.
Spencer Samuel Rooney weighed in at 8lb 10oz at 7pm on finals night and 15 minutes later Rooney senior dashed to the finals venue from Winchester.
And Rooney wetted the baby's head in style as he won the men's singles, was a member of the winning men's team, Railway Institute Club, and scooped the mixed pairs title with June Ellison.
Greg Cheesebrough was runner-up to Rooney in the singles.
Eastleigh Market Traders donated trophies for the event that raised almost £400 for carnival funds.

Bob Crawley beat Andy Elvin 4-0 to snatch the Men's Singles title on finals night.Jill Field beat Sharon Simmonds 3-0 to take the ladies' title. She hit a maximum and a 125 finish on her way to victory.
Results - Charity event: Simon Gosling/Kev Windebanke lost by walk over to Andy Mitchell and Kev Ede.
Ladies' pairs final: Debbie Collins & Jill Field beat Sharon Simmonds & Jo Senior 3-2.
Ladies' singles final: Jill Field beat Sharon Simmonds 3-0.
Men's singles final: Bob Crawley beat Andy Elvin 4-0.
Men's pairs: Graham Hardy/Greg Cheesebrough beat Paul Hogan/Andy Mitchell 3-1.

Don Chapman (Englishman) recorded a maximum in his super-quick 13-dart leg. Bob Beverly (Osborne A) and Dave Dugdale (Anchor & Hope) also hit 180s. Angie Cotton (Osborne B) went out on 116 and Scott Haines (Englishman) checked out with 101.
Itchen & District Men
Mick Hansford opened the new season in some style for West End A. He hit a 14-dart leg and threw a maximum. S Vaughan (Bulls Eye) and P Godwin (Fox & Hounds) hit maximums. Chris Morris (Ship) threw a finish of 120.
Teams are asked to note the withdrawal of Netley Central from Division 1.
Eastleigh Town & Guests League
Matt Walker (Loco) stepped up to the oche and blasted a 14-dart leg and a maximum. Mandy Keith (Bitterne Park), Gary Painting (Bitterne Park) and John Farmer (Sam's) also hit 180s. Trevor Allman (Loco A) threw a 130 check-out and D Bennett (Imperial) hit 111.
Cobweb Solutions Fareham Men - Winter
League officials have completed the draw for the first competition of the new season for the Divisional KO Cup.
And the Division 1 competition could be opening with a real belter, old rivals Gordon Arms and Hill Park in opposition.
In the draw for the Fred Dyke (Division 1) Limes, Q Battery, Delme Arms and Portsdown A have all be given byes.
Playing in the preliminary round are: Wicor Mill A v Funtley Social Club, Gordon Arms v Hill Park, Jolly Miller A v Redlands, Cob & Pen A v Cob & Pen B.
Jolly Miller B, Elm Tree A, Duke Of Connaught, Wicor Mill B and Linden Lea have all been given byes for the preliminary round of the Ernie Hill's Cup (Division 2).
The draw for the round, to be played on Wednesday, November 3 is: Elm Tree B v Portsdown Inn B, Red Lion v Cuckoo Pint, Admiral Cunningham v Seagull.
Bishop's Waltham Men - Summer League
Sixteen players are left for Monday's Individuals finals night at Bishop's Waltham Social Club.
And there is a good chance of team players knocking each other out of the event. Hill Park, Crown and Sam's all have three players in the list. Bishop's Waltham and New Inn each have two players. Steve Perren will represent Hedge End.
But probably the oldest player in the finals will be Joe Freemantle who will be playing for Woodman.

Bitterne Park Hotel Invitation League
Men's section organiser Ian Purkiss has been checking the league tables after last week's report. And now it would appear that Castle have completed the double with victory in league and cup.
In a further change to the information supplied Simon Gilligan lost the men's singles title to Melvyn Woodford.
In the mixed section there were wins for Ice House A, Kings Arms, Anchor & Hope and South Western Arms. Martin Philpott (Ice House A) nailed two maximums and D Fry (South Western Arms) hit another.
