MARCUS TRESCOTHICK reckons England need 220 runs against Sri Lanka at the Rose Bowl today to clinch an ICC Champions Trophy semi-final against Australia.

Opener Trescothick was unbeaten on 64 when the rains came down, while Andrew Flintoff was beginning to look threatening on 21 not out with England 118 for 3 after 32 overs, having lost the toss.

Trescothick and Flintoff were both dropped but Michael Vaughan (5) was not so lucky.

England captain Vaughan lost his middle stump after walking across his stumps, and Vikram Solanki inside edged a Farveez Maharoof delivery to the wicketkeeper.

It left honours even when the game was abandoned for the day.

Trescothick said: "The hardest thing is me and Freddie were just getting a partnership going and the last 18 overs are a key time in the game.

"That would have been the time to capitalise but we have to come back, start afresh and try and rebuild the innings again.

"We're going to be looking for around 220 but if we get a partnership going in the morning and bat well into the last ten overs, you can never tell what's going to happen.

"But it was never going to be a 260 or 270 wicket so you could never chase it too much.

"It's not an easy wicket, I think scores from many a county game have told us it's never going to be a great scoring ground, but I thought they bowled very well.

"It's the sort of ground where you post a total on the board and, if you bowl well enough you deserve to win."
