SUNDAY's final of the Nigel Turner/Thomsons Wealth Management Sunday Series on Lord Romsey's prolific Longbridge Lakes will be the richest individual event in local history.
More than £3,000 will go to the 19 competitors who either won one of the eight heats or finished in the top ten in the points table. Thirteen of the 19 will go home with prize money, the winner collecting £1,100.
The venue has been in fantastic recent form and, with only 19 anglers on the 42 pegs, it looks certain they will all top 20lb, with the winning weight likely to be around 100lb.
Even if the carp don't show there is a huge head of silver fish, tench and crucians.
The Sunday series has boomed and this year's has seen 60 competitors fight out epic battles on the area's leading waters. The fact that quality anglers such as Cormorants Sillybaits' Richie Yeo, Homestores Sensas' Graham Tappenden and Poingdestres' Steve Pomery missed qualifying is testament to the quality.
The line-up includes three past winners, Poingdestres pair Clive Egerton and Pete Newman and Homestores Select's Ray Hayward.
Newman has been in superb form all season and will be hard to beat, while last year's winner, Clive Egerton, quiet of late, will be primed to defend his title. Haywood, who until the last 18 months was invincible on Longbridge, will be looking for a return to form on the venue.
Dynamite Baits father-and-son Dave and Simon Hambidge also come into the final in superb form.
Carbotech's Lee Woodhouse represents the most talented anglers on the bank but Longbridge isn't his favourite venue.
Winner of the individual points league Steve Nadin is in superb form and his seventh place in the final round at Longbridge won him the title and £250 and he will be full of confidence as will Eastleigh Mosella's Dave Self, runner-up in the league. Prolific open winner Chris Albiston (Bournemouth Lodge) commands respect as does Kings Toyota's Garry Naylor.
Cormorants, whose home venue is Longbridge, field Rick Kajko, Graham Maton, Dave Sharp and Steve Rochester, who all have chances, while Paul Sears (Hometores Sensas), Steve Hunt (Eastleigh Mosella), Marc Illingworth (Homestores Select), Paul Barnard (Salisbury) and Terry Hiscock (Davis Tackle) complete the line-up. Fishing is 10am until 4pm. Spectators are welcome.
l The final round of The Eastleigh Club Championship on Stoneham, sponsored by Homestores, went to Homestores Select's Graham Tappenden. He took 58lb 4oz - two carp for 20lb plus 38b 4oz of skimmers and bream on waggler and pellet from peg 37 on the car park side of the top lake.
Kev Hatcher finished a remote second with a 30lb 4oz mixed bag on pole and corn from the bottom lake with Kings Toyota's Garry Naylor third with three carp for 28lb 8oz from the top lake on pole and pellet and Davis Tackle's Mickey Maidment fourth with 21lb 13oz. In the series Tappenden scored a massive 94 points out of 100 to win the championship and, with his winnings on the day, collected £375. Dave Self was second with 75 points and Ken White third with 65.
On the day, junior Adam Sears won with 16lb 7oz and took the junior championship from Rob Curley. Of the juveniles, Matt Kita's victory with 6lb 6oz from Richie Self gave him the title on a higher weight after tying with Self on points.
The midweek open on Greenridge Farm saw another win on the venue for Poingdestres' Pete Newman (71lb 4oz of carp from hot peg 17 on canal two using the pole and floating pellet). Mark Brown was second with 65lb 4oz of carp to 7lb on paste in the margins, with Dwayne Seed third (38lb 14oz) and Mick Kenny fourth (31lb 12oz).
TVAC's club match on Broadlands' main lake saw roach and eels dominate. Steve Ware took 13lb 6oz of roach and a bonus 2lb perch on waggler and maggot to beat Andy Palmer and Davey Jones (both 12lb 7oz).
Salmon Leap AC had a superb match on the new match lake at Orchid Farm, Bashley. Steve Hibbs took 60lb 2oz of carp from 4oz to 2lb on sweetcorn over pellet fishing three pole sections to shade Andy West (58lb 6oz of small carp on maggot). Ian Elcock finished third with 50lb.
The last round of the Cormorants Kings Toyota qualifiers on Witherington Farm saw Dynamite Baits' Simon Hambidge fish peg 83 on the inner ring of Topmoor to land 107lb 8oz of carp to 6lb on pole and caster. His father, Dave, finished second with 61lb carp to 4lb on pole and pellet, with Terry Sargent third with 60lb 4oz of carp and roach on the pole and pole feeder.
The Saturday Open at Greenridge saw Mick Kenny draw hot peg 17 on canal 2 to win with 111lb 8oz of carp on pole and maggot in the margins. Colin Stark took 105lb 1oz of carp on surface baits from peg nine on Canal one.
