Eastleigh could face disciplinary action after a fan ran on to the pitch and became involved in a player fracas during Saturday's draw at the Sparshatt Stadium.

The incident occurred on 88 minutes when a clash between Eastleigh's Tyronne Bowers and Billericay's Gary Henty sparked a 22-man brawl.

A fan jumped on to the pitch and seemed to kick out at Henty during a fracas for which Bowers was shown a red card.

Paul Doswell's side will now have to await the referee's report to see if any further action will be taken against the club.

Doswell did not want to comment on the incident, but confirmed that the referee had asked him to call the police and that club chairman Roger Sherwood had escorted the fan from the ground.

Sherwood later said: "A person was ejected from the ground for jumping over the barrier."

The attack overshadowed Christer Warren's superb last-minute equaliser that had rescued a point for the home side after they had been outplayed for much of the game.

Eastleigh, who have been plagued by injuries this season, were missing several key players, including strikers Andy Forbes, Nicky Banger, and Paul Sales, and started with transfer-listed duo Tyronne Bowers and Rob Matthews up front.

In a tentative and cagey opening, both sides struggled to create chances as they fought for possession in the middle of the park. The first real chance fell to Billericay on 25 minutes when the impressive Chris Stowe found Steve Forbes with a deep cross, but he failed to hit the target as his header flew well over.

As the half wore on Billericay started to take control and on 45 minutes a Dave McSweeney corner was met by the head of Danny Hockton at the near post to put the away side into a deserved lead.

Justin Edinburgh's side continued to dominate in the second half and should have added to their lead with Stowe and Hockton both forcing good saves from Colin Matthews.

Eastleigh lacked creativity and had to wait until 83 minutes for their first sight at goal when Bowers slipped a clever through ball to David Hughes, who shot straight into the keeper's hands when well placed.

The match then sparked into life when Bowers and Henty clashed and, amid the chaos, the Eastleigh forward was shown the red card for what appeared to be violent conduct, while Henty escaped with a yellow.

With ten men it appeared that the hosts were heading for defeat, but a good ball by substitute Martin Beck put Warren clear and he took one touch before lashing the ball home deep into injury time to rescue the home side.

After the match Paul Doswell expressed his disappointment with referee Andy Legg, believing the Bowers should have remained on the pitch. "I wasn't happy at all with the sending-off. I could not see what Tyronne has done to be sent off. He tried to get the ball back and the guy has thrown it back at him, it has then gone from there.

"What went on afterwards I can't comment on.

"We were really struggling up front. We had some youngsters out there, but this is a big boy's league, you can't send out four or five youngsters and get away with it all the time, so I am delighted with the point."
