STEVE WIGLEY is on the verge of bringing in his new assistant - and it will be HIS choice because HE'S the boss.
The new head coach is mystified as to why there is still speculation in some parts as to who the new Saints boss is going to be as the club already have one - him.
Despite the ambiguous job title, Wigley is effectively the manager and there will be no appointment above his head - only someone to work alongside him of his choosing.
Speaking ahead of tonight's Sky-televised clash at Charlton, Wigley, pictured, said: "I know my situation and it's quite interesting because a club book has just been printed and if anybody looks on the back of it then it stated Paul Sturrock was the head coach.
"And if you looked in the programme at the start of the season it stated that Paul was the head coach. I've been led to believe that was the title that was in his contract as well.
"It seems to have become a mysterious title to a lot of people but, on the continent, it's just part and parcel - it's only a title really.
"The only area I don't have responsibility is players' contract.
"And I've said to the lads I'm quite happy with that - I'd be giving them more money because I'm soft!
"There is still a misconception that I'm a caretaker or there will be somebody coming in above.
"There will be somebody coming in but it will be to work with me."
Speaking of the appointment of a new coach, he added: "It's my decision.
"I'm looking to bring someone in to work alongside me but it's not something I'm going to rush because whoever I bring in I hope I'm going to work with for a long time.
"I'm hoping it will be done fairly soon."
