BRIGHTON Hill Roundabout: This was the focus of a meeting on August 24.
A scheme drawing was presented, showing a bus lane along Brighton Way with road widening. When I asked if the police had agreed to the change, it seemed that this had still to be harmonised.
A left-only change is proposed from Western Way onto the A30 eastbound.
Improvements are planned, including resurfacing the carriageway, with anti-skid protection, maintenance, new street lighting, new signing, better road markings, repositioning of islands and possible widening.
Members expressed concern about vehicle speeds on and approaching the roundabout. It was explained that a safety improvement scheme was the best that could be achieved at present to reduce excessive speeds.
AGE Concern: The executive meeting on September 2 discussed the creation of an older persons forum, which sounds promising.
A "Celebration of Older People", open to all, is to be held on October 1, in Central Studio, Queen Mary's College, from 2pm to 6pm. Advisers will be able to consult with older people, regarding pensions, from 10am to 1pm.
Age Concern's caf is open on Wednesdays, from 10.30am to 1pm, in The Barn, Church Cottage, behind St Michael's Church, Basingstoke, on the second Wednesday of every month, where information and advice is available.
COFFEE morning: To be held in aid of Macmillan Nursing on September 24, in the waiting room at Gillies Health Centre, Brighton Hill Centre, from 10am to noon.
