WINCHESTER planners have rejected plans for a mini-housing estate in Itchen Abbas amid safety fears.
Banner Homes wanted to build 14 houses on the site of two bungalows off School Lane. Four homes would be affordable housing.
Villagers campaigned against it saying it would be too dangerous to have the extra traffic so close to the village primary school.
Georgina Busher, the planning committee chairman, said; "The developers have missed a trick. It could have been better if they had chosen a better design and better siting for the houses. It doesn't flow and doesn't look good."
Local councillor Neil Baxter said; "People recognise there should be housing development there. But this is out of character. The density is too high."
The committee rejected the scheme by 12 votes to two with one abstention.
