WIMBORNE Town wrecked the 100 per cent record of table-toppers Gosport Borough with a 2-1 victory but their celebrations were marred by a horrific injury to midfielder Mark Walker.

Walker, making only his second start for the Magpies, fell awkwardly after 80 minutes when his studs got stuck in the Cuthbury pitch and he dislocated his ankle.

The game was for held up for 25 minutes while the stricken Walker received treatment on the pitch before being rushed off to hospital.

Walker's teammate, striker Gareth Barnes, said: "It's a terrible thing to happen to such a nice bloke. It was horrific and I couldn't look - his foot was facing the wrong way."

Stuart Cooper fired Wimborne into a 20th-minute lead after Walker's shot had been parried by the keeper, and Nick Plank added a second on 47 minutes with a firm drive from the edge of the penalty area.

Adam Camfield pulled a goal back for Borough but they were unable to salvage a point.

Fourth-placed AFC Newbury now boast the only perfect record after they came from behind to beat Portland United 2-1 at Grove Corner.

Carl Mutch netted Portland's first goal in five games this season before strikes from Lee Chudy and Dave Asker maintained the Berkshire side's impressive winning sequence.

Assistant boss Richie Phippard believes that Lymington & New Milton may have blown any hopes of title glory already following their 2-1 reverse at Cowes Sports.

"Our performance was very disappointing and there has just been a major inquest out on the pitch," revealed Phippard.

"Our players seem to think that teams are going to lay down for us and weren't prepared to roll up their sleeves and battle. They didn't fancy it.

"We've now lost three league games and that could finish us for the title already - it's certainly left us with a mountain to climb," he added.

Cowes took a 28th-minute lead through Ross Gregory before the Linnets levelled just before half-time when Darren Curtis headed in at the far post from a Jimmy Sheppard corner.

The visitors were then awarded an 85th-minute penalty when Pete Smith was fouled, but Ben Thomson strangely opted for a fancy chip into the middle of goal and straight into the arms of the grateful keeper.

Moments later, a Kev Reacord effort hit the crossbar and, while the Lymington players stood with arms in the air appealing that the ball had crossed the line, Cowes broke straight upfield to snatch a winner through Elliott Day.

Goals in each half by Stuart Cannie and substitute Jamie Musselwhite earned Winchester City a 2-0 victory at Moneyfields, while efforts from Ian Davies, Mark Green and Adam Campion secured third-placed Thatcham a 3-1 win against Bemerton Heath Harlequins, who had taken an early lead through Neil Cole.
