EXTRA police have been on patrol on the A303 in Wiltshire in a bid to detect drivers who are tired, distracted, speeding or using hand-held mobile phones.
On Tuesday Wiltshire traffic police pulled drivers over using roving patrols and safety cameras.
"Fifteen people have died in collisions in the Salisbury police division since the beginning of April," said the division's traffic manager Acting Inspector Paul Williams.
"Of these, seven took place on the A303 and in July alone four people died on the A303."
Unless the trend can be reversed this year will see an increase in accidents in the division, which includes the Kennet area. "Between the beginning of April 2003 and the end of March this year, 28 people died in collisions in the division," said the officer.
