THE wartime exploits of a naughty boy from Ludgershall will feature in the Meridian Television programme 'Underworld at War' tonight at 11pm.
The series includes details of criminal activity in Britain during World War Two. Activities that were newsworthy during the war weren't always considered suitable for British Gaumont/Pathe film clips. One such item was the successful theft of a US Air Force Piper aircraft from under the American's noses at their airfield in Perham Down.
Former Ludgershall resident, Jim Stoodley who was 14 in 1943, managed to sneak on to the airfield and fly a Piper aircraft a short distance. Following the incident questions were asked in the House of Commons about the lax military security at US air bases in the UK.
Jim, now in his 70s and living in Everleigh, has already written a book about his wartime exploits.
