Sir.-I am writing to pass comment on the behaviour of certain individuals towards older people.

The situation relates to my grandparent, who was using public transport a number of weeks ago.

The "accessible" seats were taken up by children and, when my grandparent asked them to move in order to sit down, an adult replied by saying the children should stay where they were.

My grandparent, with restricted walking, therefore had to move to the other end of the vehicle to find an alternative seat.

Socially, we should all be encouraged to voice our concerns at acts of behaviour like this and I feel strongly that travel companies should enforce the correct use of these accessible seats before our common decency and humanity is lost.

My grandparent has given so much to this country and for us all, only to be treated in this way.

I cannot express how dismayed I am at the ignorance and lack of gratitude and respect shown.

The older generation should be held in high esteem and I feel very angry that any older person should be treated in this way.
