THE band of the 6th Fleet of the United States Navy made a rare appearance in the UK to bring a touch of Americana to the Grand Military Tattoo at Fort Nelson in Fareham on Saturday.

The special guests, who flew in especially from their base in Naples, Italy for the event, wowed the crowds with an exciting mix of musical styles from jazz and boogie-woogie to the more traditional military sounds.

Visitors to the annual Tattoo were also treated to thrilling parachute displays, massed bands, bagpipes and Highland dancing and the Victorian Horse Artillery.

An evening performance by the bands ended with an explosive finale of live gun salutes from the Royal Armouries collection, a laser show and huge firework display all set to music from the massed bands of more than 150 musicians.

The event at the historic Victorian fort raises funds for the Royal Star and Garter Home for Disabled Ex-Servicemen and Women.
